Language Arts Syllabus
Weekly Wordplay : investigating academic vocabulary, studying word parts/structure, and practicing how to use dictionary resources Click on the Weekly Wordplay link to access the copies of the handouts.
Writer’s Workshop : keeping a writer’s notebook (writing strategies, QAR/ACE, writing and language mini-lessons and notes, journaling, sharing current event articles, writing conferences) Click on the Writer's Workshop link to view the expectations & grading rubric.
Participation : being on time and in seat, being on task, being prepared for class with notebook, paper, writing utensil, agenda/planner, free reading material, folder, etc.
Papers and Projects: This is when we practice the writing process in the form of essays, reports, creative stories, poems, etc. and then publish and/or present our final products.
All final papers will be typed or handwritten in ink pen using MLA format.
All assignments will be graded based off the Iowa Core Standards for mastery of language, writing, reading for information, speaking, and listening.
