Common Myths About Junior High...BUSTED
1. Myth: Junior high has a "sink or swim" philosophy.
Busted! Although students do need to begin taking on more responsibility and accountability for themselves in junior high, teachers are always happy to help, offer advice, and most of all want to see their students succeed! ☺
2. Myth: There is a ton of homework in junior high!
Busted! I know you are busy at home and outside of school—so am I. That’s why I give you lots of in class time to complete assignments: so you can get my help if you need it, and so that you can complete your assignment correctly and on time. It is your responsibility to use that class time efficiently, otherwise you might end up with homework.
3. Myth: Junior high teachers lose student work...and then blame it on the students.
Busted! Most teachers are obsessively and compulsively organized and try to correct student work and hand it back as soon as possible. If you feel there has been a mistake on PowerSchool, please contact me about it ASAP via e-mail or calling me before or after school so we can solve the problem. ☺
4. Myth: Junior high teachers "give" grades.
Busted! Students EARN their grades by completing their assignments to the best of their abilities and on time. Students have extra time to get help and work on assignments during period 8 AAT/homeroom.
5. Myth: Passing time (four minutes) is not long enough to go to my locker, go to the restroom, and find my next class.
Busted! The junior high wing is small at L-M. Prioritize your time and you will get it done with no sweat. If you find that you are having continued struggles in-between classes (with lockers, finding classrooms, etc.) please talk to a teacher about it so we can assist you and prevent tardiness! ☺
6. Myth: Junior high years are the worst of any kid’s life.
Busted! Although being a tween can be a social and emotional roller coaster at times, junior high is a lot of fun! We still have a lot of laughs and discover many new adventures together! Additionally, L-M is a friendly and enjoyable community. ☺
